Find your style!
I always wanted to find my style, but never knew how. I would go out and buy new items but once I left the shop with it, I never wore it again. Just didn’t know how to match it, or didn’t feel that it suited me anymore.
If you know me you would know fashion is something I never really bothered with, I grew up receiving the hand me downs from my sibling and wore whatever I saw first. It’s only recently that I began to realize the importance of having a style. When you dress up nicely it can contribute to your mood, and when you feel good, you do good.
I knew I needed to change how I dressed as whenever I went out I was never feeling confident in how I looked, I always prayed that I never bumped into anyone I knew. Like anyone I started of this journey with a YouTube search and got sold on a video created by Lindsiann.
The video clearly broke this vast topic down to actionable steps for all those struggling out there.
The main steps from the video were.
- Create a mood board for everything that catches your eye (shirts, bags, shoes, colours, accessories)
- Reflect on the board you created, what in particular did you like about that style? e.g. color combo, pattern, V neck.
- Look through your closet, out of your clothing staples e.g. jeans, tops, what style do you like? e.g. High or low waist, print or no print?
- Get a clothing rack and bring out all the items you have that match what you have learned about your favored style.
Now step 4 is a real game changer, it brings to life the mood board you created and allows to you to visually put your style together. You can have fun matching and trying on your favored items to understand what works and what doesn’t work for you better. Through this exercise you slowly build up your sense of style.
The rack comes in handy even after your little mix and match session as you can set up your desired outfit for the next day, this starts you off on a high for the day not only because you will feel confident about your appearance but you have one less thing to think about.
Thanks to this video, I now have a better understanding of my style and what I need to look for.
